1. SMS for Consent Communication

We will not share your phone number with any third parties for marketing purposes. SMS opt-in and phone numbers collected for SMS consent will not be shared with any third party or affiliate company.

2. Types of SMS Communications

If you opt in to receive messages from Ohio Legacy Law, you may receive texts for conversational purposes. Standard message rates may apply. Depending on your relationship with the Firm, conversational messages may include:

  • Appointment reminders: confirmations, reminders, rescheduling notices, and cancellations for consultations, meetings, signings, and calls.
  • Consultation and intake follow-up: replies to your inquiry, requests for information needed to evaluate your matter, and scheduling of an initial consultation.
  • Case and matter updates: general status notices, such as a reminder of an upcoming hearing, a deadline, or that a document is ready for review.
  • Document and signing notifications: notices that documents are ready to review or sign, that original documents are ready for pickup, or that a recording or filing has been completed.
  • Account notifications: invoice notices, payment reminders, and payment confirmations.
  • Customer service messages: replies to questions you send us by text and other conversational messages with Firm staff.
  • Office notices: office closures, holiday hours, and changes to contact information.

We will not send you marketing or promotional text messages unless you have separately and expressly agreed to receive them. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of hiring the Firm or purchasing any service.

3. Message Frequency

You may receive approximately 2 to 8 SMS messages per month. Message frequency may vary based on your appointments, the status of your matter, and your communications with us.

4. Carrier Charges

Message and data rates may apply based on your mobile carrier and location. Ohio Legacy Law does not charge a fee for text messages. Contact your wireless carrier with questions about your plan.

5. Opt-In Methods

You can opt in via the following methods:

  • Online form: by submitting an online form at https://southwestohiolaw.com/contact/ and checking the optional SMS consent box. The SMS consent box is not pre-checked, is not required to submit the form, and is separate from any other consent.
  • Verbal consent: we ask them verbally. When you speak with Firm staff by phone or in person, we ask whether you would like to receive text messages from Ohio Legacy Law at the number you provide. We add your number only after you give verbal confirmation that you wish to opt in, and we record the date, time, and method of your consent.

6. Opt-Out Instructions

You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. You may also reply END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, or QUIT. After you opt out, you will receive one final message confirming that you have been unsubscribed, and you will receive no further text messages from us. To resume receiving texts, reply START.

Opting out of text messages does not end any attorney-client relationship, does not withdraw the Firm from representing you, and does not stop us from contacting you by telephone, mail, or email about your matter.

7. Help

If you need assistance, reply HELP or contact us at https://southwestohiolaw.com/contact/. You may also call our office at (937) 402-2348 or email jim@southwestohiolaw.com.

8. Disclosures

  • Message frequency may vary.
  • Message and data rates may apply.

  • Reply HELP for assistance.
  • Visit our website to review our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

How We Obtain Your Consent

We send text messages only to people who have given us their express consent. We obtain consent in the following ways:

  • Website checkbox: The contact form at https://southwestohiolaw.com/contact/ includes a separate SMS consent checkbox. The checkbox is not pre-checked, is not required to submit the form, and is not bundled with any other consent. You opt in only by checking the box yourself. The checkbox reads: “By checking this box, I agree to receive text messages from Ohio Legacy Law related to appointment reminders, consultation follow-up, case and document updates, and account notifications at the phone number provided above. SMS frequency may vary. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for assistance. Reply STOP to opt out of receiving text messages. Please review our Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions.”
  • Verbal consent: We ask them verbally. When you speak with Firm staff by phone or in person, we ask whether you would like to receive text messages from Ohio Legacy Law at the number you provide. We add your number only after you give verbal confirmation that you wish to opt in.

We record the date, time, and method of each consent. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of hiring the Firm, and you may withdraw your consent at any time by replying STOP.

9. Important Notices About Legal Communications by Text

  • No attorney-client relationship. Texting the Firm, or receiving a text from the Firm, does not by itself create an attorney-client relationship. An attorney-client relationship exists only after the Firm agrees to represent you, usually in a written engagement agreement.
  • Not legal advice. General informational texts are not legal advice. Do not act or refrain from acting based on a text message without speaking with an attorney about your specific situation.
  • Confidential and sensitive information. Text messaging is not a fully secure form of communication. Please do not send Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, medical information, or detailed confidential facts about your matter by text. We may ask you to call or use a more secure method instead.
  • Deadlines and emergencies. Do not rely on text messages for urgent or time-sensitive legal matters. A text message to the Firm does not satisfy any court deadline, statute of limitations, or other legal requirement. If you have an emergency, call 911.
  • Messages may not be monitored at all times. Texts received outside business hours may not be read until the next business day.

10. Your Mobile Number

You represent that you are the account holder or authorized user of the mobile number you provide and that you are at least 18 years old. If you change or give up your mobile number, please notify us or text STOP from that number so messages are not sent to a new owner of the number.

11. Carrier Disclaimer

Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Message delivery depends on your carrier and device, and delivery is not guaranteed.

12. Changes to These SMS Terms

We may update these SMS Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Your continued receipt of text messages after an update means you accept the updated SMS Terms.
