SMS Terms & Conditions

These SMS Terms & Conditions (“SMS Terms”) govern text messages sent by Ohio Legacy Law (“Ohio Legacy Law,” the “Firm,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) to your mobile phone. By opting in to receive text messages from us, you agree to these SMS Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Terms of Use.

1. Program Description

Ohio Legacy Law offers a text-messaging program so clients, prospective clients, and other people who contact the Firm can receive timely information about their matters and their dealings with the Firm. You will receive text messages only if you have given us your mobile number and expressly agreed to receive texts from us, for example by checking an SMS consent box on our website or intake form, texting us first, or giving verbal or written consent to Firm staff.

2. Types of Messages You May Receive

Depending on your relationship with the Firm, the messages you receive may include:

• Appointment reminders — confirmations, reminders, rescheduling notices, and cancellations for consultations, meetings, signings, and calls.
• Consultation and intake follow-up — replies to your inquiry, requests for information needed to evaluate your matter, and scheduling of an initial consultation.
• Case and matter updates — general status notices, such as a reminder of an upcoming hearing, a deadline, or that a document is ready for review.
• Document and signing notifications — notices that documents are ready to review or sign, that original documents are ready for pickup, or that a recording or filing has been completed.
• Account and billing notifications — invoice notices, payment reminders, payment confirmations, and retainer or trust-account balance notices.
• Customer service messages — replies to questions you send us by text and other conversational messages with Firm staff.
• Office notices — office closures, holiday hours, and changes to contact information.

We will not send you marketing or promotional text messages unless you have separately and expressly agreed to receive them. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of hiring the Firm or buying any service.

3. Message Frequency

Messaging frequency may vary. The number of messages you receive depends on your appointments, the status of your matter, and your communications with us.

4. Cost

Message and data rates may apply. Your mobile carrier’s standard messaging and data rates apply to messages you send and receive. Ohio Legacy Law does not charge a fee for text messages. Contact your wireless carrier with questions about your plan.

5. How to Opt Out

To opt out at any time, text STOP. You may reply STOP, END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, or QUIT to any message from us. After you text STOP, you will receive one final message confirming that you have been unsubscribed, and you will receive no further text messages from us unless you opt in again. You may opt back in at any time by texting START.

Opting out of text messages does not end any attorney-client relationship, does not withdraw the Firm from representing you, and does not stop us from contacting you by telephone, mail, or email about your matter.

7. Important Notices About Legal Communications by Text

• No attorney-client relationship. Texting the Firm, or receiving a text from the Firm, does not by itself create an attorney-client relationship. An attorney-client relationship exists only after the Firm agrees to represent you, usually in a written engagement agreement.
• Not legal advice. General informational texts are not legal advice. Do not act or refrain from acting based on a text message without speaking with an attorney about your specific situation.
• Confidential and sensitive information. Text messaging is not a fully secure form of communication. Please do not send Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, medical information, or detailed confidential facts about your matter by text. We may ask you to call or use a more secure method instead.
• Deadlines and emergencies. Do not rely on text messages for urgent or time-sensitive legal matters. A text message to the Firm does not satisfy any court deadline, statute of limitations, or other legal requirement. If you have an emergency, call 911.
• Messages may not be monitored at all times. Texts received outside business hours may not be read until the next business day.

8. Your Mobile Number and Information

You represent that you are the account holder or authorized user of the mobile number you provide and that you are at least 18 years old. If you change or give up your mobile number, please notify us or text STOP from that number so messages are not sent to a new owner of the number.

No mobile information will be sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third party, except with service providers (such as our messaging platform provider) that help us deliver messages, or as required by law or the Rules of Professional Conduct.

9. Carrier Disclaimer

Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Message delivery depends on your carrier and device, and delivery is not guaranteed.

10. Changes to These SMS Terms

We may update these SMS Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Your continued receipt of text messages after an update means you accept the updated SMS Terms.
